Yesterday we had a great turnout of supporters for our application.
I believe we accomplished several things:
1. We demonstrated that under the new regulations proposed by
the staff, it is virtually impossible to locate a motor sports
facility of any kind.
2. We proved that there is a large contingent of Lancaster County
citizens who are literate, considerate, articulate and family-oriented,
and who are passionate about the sport of drag racing.
3. We showed that the attendance at events at the proposed track
would benefit all of Lancaster County.
4. We showed that we are not oblivious to the concerns of neighbors,
or disrespectful of their property, their religious beliefs, or
their ignorance of the sport.
5. We got the Planning Commission to the point of questioning
the staff about whether they had even done any research on the
availability of ANY locations in the county that meet their proposed
criteria, and why they haven't done any real background work on
the sound issue (they admitted they don't know how).
In the end, we were faced with a choice: go along with the request
of at least one of the three commissioners who left before the
end of the meeting, and defer our rebuttal (and their decision)
two weeks; or press the remaining six commissioners for a vote.
Bottom line: we need five votes, and we like our chances of getting
five out of nine better than five out of six.
Over the next two weeks, we will continue to gather new information,
and prepare our rebuttal argument. There will NOT be an opportunity
for another long hearing. Only NEW information will be accepted.
This will be in the form of responses of staff to the questions
asked by the commissioners, possibly some information by opponents
in response to the staff information---to the extent it's new---
and our rebuttal...then a vote.
Thanks to all who have helped us get this far. Don't let up!!

Thank you all for attending the meeting on Monday Night. It was
very positive and hopefully put everyone on the same page for
the hearing on Wednesday.
It is IMPORTANT to for EVERYONE that has something to say do so
on Wednesday. It is your opportunity to voice your opinion, let
the Commissioners know how long you have been a resident of Nebraska
and maybe share some of your experiences about drag racing. How
do you view a Motorsports Facility in Lancaster County and what
benefits the State, County and City of Lincoln would reap from
said facility.
Just a few things to think about?
Do you travel out of state for any motorsports activities? How
much money on average do you spend in other states when you do
attend these events?
Do you have a car that you would race? How much invested?
Has racing brought you and your family closer together? Do you
attend races with your spouse and children?
Do you own a business that would benefit from having a Motorsports
facility in Lancaster County?
These are just a few ideas...It is important to voice your opinions
and take this opportunity to be heard.
Those attending the hearing can start signing in at 12:30pm on
Wednesday. See you there.
